The 2020 Acura MDX and the 2020 Acura RDX are both exciting options for Aurora and Highlands Ranch drivers. They also come out on top when compared to the Honda Pilot, BMW X3, and Lexus NX. But what’s the difference between Acura MDX and RDX models, and how do they compare to each other? While you’ll receive a similar array of features with either option, you’ll need to compare the Acura MDX vs. RDX in depth to be sure that you’re making the right choice!

Acura MDX vs. RDX: Engine Specs and Performance

One of the differences you’ll notice is that the Acura MDX comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, which delivers 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. The RDX receives a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged I4, with 272 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. It’s a little less power but proportionate to the SUVs’ sizes. Both the MDX and the RDX offer Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®). However, only the MDX is available with Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® technology. Sport Hybrid equipment delivers a more engaging performance, but it also boosts city fuel economy in Denver. Both models include the AcuraWatch™ safety suite standard.

Acura MDX vs. RDX: Seating Space & Dimensions

If seating and spacious dimensions are important to you, either SUV is a great option! Here’s the breakdown:

  • The Acura MDX is 196.2 inches long, and 77.7 inches wide. The RDX is just 186.7 inches long and 74.8 inches wide, so you’ll have an easier time parking on Denver streets.
  • The MDX and RDX offer near-equal amounts of legroom in their first and second rows. However, the MDX offers a comfortable third row of seating, as well as more shoulder room in both the front and rear rows.

MDX vs. RDX: Cargo Capacity

One important difference between the Acura MDX and RDX is in their cargo space:

  • With all seats upright, the MDX offers 15.8 cubic feet of storage, compared to 29.5 cubic feet in the RDX.
  • Fold the rear seats down, and the MDX offers a total of 90.9 cubic feet with both the third and second rows flat. The RDX cargo capacity tops out at 58.9 cubic feet.
